Rationale
Besides its unusual shape and the way this mortar and pestle assembled, the main thing that distinguishes this product from the one in the market is the expanding shape of the pestle towards the lid. Not only it has a fitting diameter handle for our handgrip, this shape also prevent our hand slipping over the pestle and at the same time it reduces the power needed to hold the pestle tightly while using it. Furthermore, the concave interior of the mortar aims to avoid the objects being spilled out during pounding and grinding.
I actually put a lot of time sketching and making mock ups to get the best size and shape of these tools. The main difficulty is to make the size of the mortar and the pestle in balance but not to put aside the overall look as they are also stand as one piece. The size and shape of the mortar will affect the size and the shape of the pestle and vice versa. Finally I arrive at this size where the mortar is not as small as the one used in medical place and not as big as the one in the market (those big stone and granite mortar) but big enough to make sauce or paste.
Another main feature of this tool is its material, which is stainless steel. The reason why I choose stainless steel over other material is because it has some technical properties that offer some benefits such as;
- Strong and long lasting
- Better than stone because it is cohesive and corrosion resistance; small bits of the mortar and pestle won’t get mixed with the objects
- Better than wood because it is not absorbent and non-porous; won’t absorb/ trap the ingredients being ground and prevent the growth of microorganisms from the food particles that are left in the mortar and pestle surface
- Non-reactive with alkaline or acidic foods so it is safe either for food preparation or medical use
- Easy to clean; dishwasher safe
Feedbacks are more than welcomed :)
wow. i like your model. it is so nice and bright. how canyou do that. it is so great
ReplyDeleteI like how unconventional organic form of your mortar and pestle looks and the added functionality of a lid as well! I can see you've have put in a lot of effort into making this model, well done =)
ReplyDeletewhat a nice model~! high technical with perfect smooth & polished surface~!! & i like the shape as well.
ReplyDeleteim thinking about the length of the pestle...what if someone's hand is big (especialily for male...lol)? is that length also suitable(/comfortable) in this situation?
anyway, i like your product so much~!❤
Cherrie. This is a seriously beautiful product. The style of the mortar and pestle is so unlike anything i have seen and the finish you managed is exceptional.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I have to say is that the grip-space on the pestle is possibly not large enough to accommodate a large hand (like my own)
But otherwise, you have done a sensational job. Congratulations Cherrie.
This is really amazing, the model is beautiful and perfectly symmetrical. I love the idea of using the shape in two ways. Maybe for the material you could use and nice would and not paint it so its really organic like the shape, but really beautiful work!!
ReplyDeletehey cherrie, i feel that when we use this product. we hold the pestle and would hit on the rim of the mortar. because sometimes we have a big hand. but otherwise. i really like your model. it is so great.
ReplyDeleteHey I didn't write in accordance to improvements before hand so here it is... i think it would've still been great to to keep it unpainted as it contains its natural look and have a sense of connection with the products used within.
ReplyDeleteThe painting of model is super good!! The quality is so good. First look of the design can't tell it is a pestle. I think you have consider the design all inclusive. After read of your rationale, I got that the material will be stainless steel, even though it can provide the good quality of product , I'm worry that it will be quite heavy for your product to have the material of stainless steel, I think you should consider other material.
ReplyDeleteyou have make a fantastic model and your technical drawing is very good too. maybe you could make some thing on the top of the pestle to prevent slip when people use it. i think if the pestle is smooth it can not working very well. anyway i really like your design
